How to Set Up Disqus Comments on WordPress

Disqus is one of the largest and most well known comment systems on the Web. Its usage by many popular websites might inspire you to add Disqus comments to your Wordpress website. This handy guide will teach you how to do it.

Part One: Registering Your Website



  1. Go to the Disqus website at http://disqus.com/ .





  2. Click on the Add Disqus to Your Site button.





  3. Fill out the registration form. Add your website's details and click continue. Note your website's shortname. You will need it later while setting up Disqus.


  4. On the Choose Your Platform page, click Wordpress.







Part Two: Configuring Your Website



  1. Navigate to your Wordpress website's dashboard and visit the plugins page.


  2. Click on the 'Add New' link.





  3. Search for 'Disqus Comment System'.





  4. Click on the Relevant Result that appears and click install now.





  5. After the plugin installs and activates, Navigate to Settings>Disqus Comments.





  6. Enter your site's shortname and preferred date format. Leave the API key field blank for now.







Part Three: Registering Your Application



  1. Open a new tab. Navigate to the Disqus application registration at http://disqus.com/api/applications/register/. Fill out the form. Fill in the Captcha and click Register My Application.





  2. After you have submitted the form and are redirected, click on details.





  3. Scroll down and look under OAuth settings. You should see your API key. Note it down.





  4. Fill in the API key you obtained into the API key field in your Disqus plugin settings.





  5. You're done! You will now be able to receive comments on your Wordpress page updates.




Edit Tips



  • You don't need to fill in all the fields while registering your application.

  • If you wish to moderate your website's comments, you can log into your dashboard at (shortname).disqus.com.
