How to Do Maintenance on a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado MAF Sensor

6/06/2014

Do you want that crisp throttle response your truck or SUV used to have? The MAF sensor is often overlooked, especially if the vehicle is not regularly serviced at the dealership. Here is a step by step to regain that lost horsepower. This is a great DIY project even for the novice mechanic.

EditSteps

  1. Ready your gloves. Disconnect negative battery terminal. This is done for two reasons. First, to prevent any electrical damage. Second, to reset the vehicle's computer and adjust to the new MAF sensor reading.

  2. Disconnect MAF wiring plug then loosen the two hose clamps that are holding the MAF sensor into place.

  3. Remove the 4 screws around the air cleaner housing. Then remove the air cleaner housing cover.

  4. Remove MAF sensor from air intake.

  5. Place on a shop towel flow side down.

  6. Spray MAF Sensor Cleaner through the sensor (normal direction of flow) but not directly on the sensor leads. Allow sensor to air dry before re-installation.

  7. Reverse above steps for re-installation. Make sure to reconnect the negative battery terminal.

  8. Start vehicle and test your work.
