The Breville BTM800XL One-Touch Tea Maker is a thing of beauty. You put your tea leaves in, press a few buttons and it makes perfectly brewed tea. Every single time. Unfortunately, this marvel of German engineering is a little complex to use if you haven't been instructed. These simple instructions will get you brewing your dream cup of tea in no time.
Edit Steps
- Fill the carafe with water. Place it onto the tea maker.
- Put tea leaves in the basket. Add one level teaspoon of tea leaves per cup.
- Place the top on the basket. This prevents the tea leaves from coming out of the basket once it is submerged.
- Put the basket into carafe. Notice the side of the basket has a magnetized end that clicks effortlessly into the rail in the carafe. You can't miss it.
- Select the type of tea using the button on the bottom left of the tea maker.
- The One-Touch Tea Maker comes set with recommended time and temperature settings for each kind of tea. For example, on the medium brew setting, green tea is 3 minutes at 175 degrees F. Oolong tea is 3 minutes at 195ºF/90.5ºC. Black tea is 2 minutes at 212ºF/100ºC.
- You can increase or decrease the strength of your brew by changing the settings from medium to strong or mild. This will add or decrease time to the brew time.
- Brew time and temperature is an art and varies by personal taste. You can customize the temperature and brewing times by pressing the up and down arrows next to the LCD screen.
- Press the "Tea" button to start the brewing.
- Watch. Once the water reaches the desired temperature, the tea basket will slowly descend into the water, where it will brew for the set amount of time. It will automatically rise up to prevent over steeping and beep signaling it is ready. Enjoy your tea!

Edit Tips
- The tea maker will keep the tea warm for an hour after you complete the brew. Once you pick up the carafe and pour it, it will turn off the warmer though. If you wish to keep the remainder of the tea warm, press the "keep warm" button.
- If you use the correct settings for the tea, you literally can't scald or over over-steep the tea with it. It's amazing.
- Pour at least 500 ml (about 2 cups) of water for the tea maker to function properly.
