How to Make a Necklace Holder from a Wooden Hanger

4/24/2014

Design a jewelry hanger using a wooden hanger, a few hook screws and a small screwdriver. Customize your hanger by either removing its base or keeping it intact, depending on the number of necklaces or scarves you need to hang.

EditSteps

  1. Examine the jewelry that you plan to hang. Before you can transform the hanger into something that can hold jewelry you will need to know how many pieces you plan to hang. The number will allow you to space the hook screws evenly and help you decide if you should remove the bottom of the wooden hanger.

  2. Measure the hanger and determine how closely the hook screws should be spaced. If you have a large number of necklaces that must be hung consider either adding another hanger or spacing the hooks close together. However, don’t place the hooks too closely together as necklaces could become entangled.

  3. Mark places where hook screws will be placed. Using the pencil and ruler, mark off where each hook screw will go along the top, sides and possibly the bottom of the hanger.

  4. Drive hook screws into marked spots. Carefully twist hook screws into place using pliers.

    • Add a dab of wood glue to each hook screw to ensure the hook remains in place. Although the wood glue may not be necessary it will provide you with a measure of protection that should keep the hooks in place.

  5. Finished.

EditTips

  • Only attempt this with a wooden hanger as plastic won’t hold the hooks in place.
