Vaseline can be one of the worst possible things to get into your hair. Most normal cleaning agents including shampoo, detergent and soap do nothing against Vaseline and end up turning your hair into a soggy mess. While one way to remove Vaseline from hair is to use olive oil, you can also use peanut butter and it won't leave a mess.
Edit Steps
Part 1: Applying the Peanut Butter
- In your bathroom, apply the peanut butter liberally to your hair, using your hands. Pay special attention to the areas which contain a lot of Vaseline.
- Wait 5 to 10 minutes. Occasionally massage your hair during this time.
Part 2: Removing the Peanut Butter and Vaseline
- Using your hairbrush, remove the peanut butter and Vaseline mixture from your hair. Use long, measured strokes.
- After you have removed the majority of the mixture, rinse your hair under cold water. This will clear the rest of the peanut butter out. Apply conditioner and shampoo if you want.
- Clean your hairbrush after you have finished. It will have a sticky mess of peanut butter and Vaseline in it that needs to be washed out.
- Enjoy your Vaseline-free hair.
Edit Tips
- Try to use an old hairbrush when combing hair. If you get a peanut butter Vaseline mix in your brush, you will have another thing to clean.
- Wash your hair with cold water.
- The scientific reason why this works is actually because the nonpolar hydrocarbons in the Vaseline mix with the lipids in peanut butter making it easier to remove with a hairbrush!
Edit Warnings
- If another member of your household is allergic to peanuts, you should warn them that you have used or are going to use peanut butter in the bathroom, as they most likely won't be expecting to find it in there.
- Obviously, you'll want to avoid using this method if you are allergic to peanuts.
