How to Pull Off a Pixie Cut

12/30/2013

Short hair isn't a style everyone can pull off. Cutting your hair short is a big and brave step! But, if you aren't quite satisfied with your pixie cut, it's time to learn how to rock it with confidence! The article below will guide you through different styles of the pixie cut.

Edit Steps

Part 1: Styling Your Hair

  1. Slick it back. With your hair wet, comb it all back. Then, take a small amount of hair product (gel, pomade, wax, etc.) and comb all your hair, away from your face. This look is wonderful for work or business. Don't forget the hairspray!

  2. Style your bangs. If your bangs are especially short, you can take hair product and style it, similar to the style Emma Watson had when it was first cut. You will have to start out with dry hair. This specific style is for casual or everyday looks, but can be used for other occasions due to its simplicity.

  3. Try out a faux hawk. This works particularly well if your bangs are short. Simply grab strong holding hair gel and mess around with the tips. You might need hair spray if your gel doesn't hold for very long. This style is perfect for people who are experimenting with different looks,or can be used for people who really want to stand out.

    • For a half or partial faux hawk, do the same as listed above except move your bangs up and to the side. This is just hitting the nail on the head for people who want to look edgy.

  4. Avoid a "style" and go messy. For messy hair, just do whatever you want with it! You may need hair product; you might not. Messy hair is meant to look stylish, and is meant to look as if you didn't do anything to it after waking up. It's fantastic for a lazy person, because you can just walk out the door in minutes.

  5. Spike it up. Spiky hair is much like the previous style, but with more spikes and perhaps more product. Just mess around with it until you are satisfied. This look is great for people who like to be wild.

  6. Try a side sweep. If your bangs are long or grown out, you can put them to the side of your forehead! This is just perfect for people who are uncomfortable with their forehead and want to make it appear smaller.

    • For a different twist on this style, put your bangs to the other side of your forehead than usual, or add more hair to one side than you normally would. It adds more volume than the previous step. It will also have people guessing what you did differently. Sometimes it can completely change your look!

Part 2: Picking Clothing to Complement Your Cut

  1. Play up your girlish curves. If you tend to have a boyish body figure, you might want to wear pants that show off curves. Skinny jeans are perfect for the pixie. They will flaunt any curves, and dark washes will make your legs appear smaller and thinner.

  2. Wear skirts for a feminine touch. Skirts are perfect for showing your girly side. Skirts will also allow no one confuse you with a boy. If you got a pixie cut because you're a tomboy, then wearing a skirt can sometimes be a bit out of your comfort zone.

  3. Splash out with dresses, too. Dresses are feminine like skirts, especially if they are long and flowing. They are beautiful and in most cases, very sexy.

  4. Don't forget stylish shoes. This step won't be very important if you followed all or most of the steps above. If you haven't, then a pair of flats or heels are perfect to show your feminine side. It's okay if you don't own any pairs: simple Converse sneakers or flip flops will suffice.

Part 3: Using Hair Accessories

  1. Invest in head bands. Either you can place them behind your ears and just leave it on top of your head, or if your bangs are irritating and long, you can pull them back. This look can be really cute with head bands that feature bows.

  2. Get creative with scarves. You can use these just like headbands, but you have more styles available to mess around with. All you have to do is tie them into a knot and go.

  3. Use bobby pins. If the sides of your pixie annoy you, you can tame them with a bobby pin. No hair accessory could be simpler.

  4. Try out pony tails. If you are growing out your pixie, you have the option to throw it into a pony tail. You may need smaller hair ties than what you would use with longer hair, but the result is worth it.

  5. Experiment with beanies! These are very stylish hats, and, if they are large and baggy in the back, can give you the illusion of having a lot if hair tucked in there. The hats can sometimes be adorable!

    • Any hats are fair game, but you may want to steer clear from baseball caps; they might make you look like a boy.
