How to Make a Lip Balm Container

3/15/2014

If you make your own lip balm, you'll be needing containers to keep it in. While you could purchase some at the drugstore, making your own by recycling unwanted soda bottles is easy and cheap.

EditSteps

  1. Wash the bottle well. Cut the top off the cleaned water bottle. Cut just below the cap portion, around the neck (see image for guidance).

    • Ensure that the bottle is dry before cutting or working with it.

  2. Make the base of the container. Squeeze some glue on the cut end of the piece you're left with. Affix this portion to a piece of hard plastic sheet. This plastic sheet base needs to substantial enough to hold the balm inside the container. Allow to dry firmly.

    • Do not cut the base shape out of the plastic sheet yet.

  3. Let the glued base dry for about 10-15 minutes. Test that it has dried enough by gently pushing a finger from the top of the container into the base. The plastic base should not bulge or buckle but stay flat; there should be no holes showing at the sides.

    • Add more glue and allow to dry again if you see a bulge or any holes.

  4. Cut around the plastic base to remove excess plastic. Simply follow the shape of the cap, keeping as close to the edge as possible. You will now have the base in place.

  5. Open the cap. Transfer your homemade lip gloss (or Vaseline) to the container.

  6. Finished.
