How to Play Call of Duty Ghosts Multiplayer

2/08/2014

Call of Duty Ghosts (COD Ghosts) has added more features in the usual multiplayer arena. For you to be able to dominate the online matches, you will have to master new strategies and techniques to become a COD: Ghosts pro player.

Edit Steps

Edit Part 1: Start Smart

  1. Master the controls. COD Ghosts has a few extra nifty features that allow for a mix of maneuvers while playing online.

    • The usual moves such as running (left analog stick), aiming (left button), shooting (right trigger), and others are not changed. Even accessing the streak rewards can still be activated via d-pad. Viewing player stats and accessing the menu while in a multiplayer session stays untouched as well.

    • You can adjust your controller to your liking. For example, you will be able to transfer the shoot action to the left trigger if you prefer it that way. Almost all the buttons can be re-assigned with different actions.

    • Remember the run jump move from Black Ops 2? Well, it’s back and it’s been changed to run and slide. To execute this move, start-off running by holding down the right analog stick and pushing it forward. After a few seconds of running, press square (or B on the Xbox 360) to slide on your knees. Holding it down a bit more will make your player hit the ground.

    • Another cool feature in COD Ghosts is the ability to lean around corners. This can be done by going behind a wall. At its very edge, press the aim button (left button) and your player will lean out from behind the wall.

  2. Play the campaign. Playing campaign will get you accustomed to the COD Ghosts controls, and immerses you in the story while doing so.

    • You can adjust the campaign’s difficulty setting. It's recommended that you play in normal mode first, then advance to difficult mode for tougher AI enemies. Remember, practice makes for a good player.

    • If you want a more exciting way of practicing your skills with other players, you can also try playing Extinction mode. It is a co-op mode wherein online players try to survive wave after wave of aliens!

  3. Play a private match. This is the best practice you could have before stepping in the multiplayer arena. Private matches can simulate an actual multiplayer session with AI enemies called bots.

    • You can setup your private game to your preference. You can customize AI levels, weapons, maps, and even winning conditions.

    • Take advantage of this opportunity to get familiar with all the weapons available in COD Ghosts. Once you get them all figured out, you will easily be able to switch to your weapon of choice during an online match with real players.

Edit Part 2: Prepare for Multiplayer

  1. Customize your appearance. One great way to stick out from other players is by giving your player its own identity. Thus, applying customization to your player gives you a sense of ownership.

    • You can now choose your player’s gender, something that hasn't been possible before.

    • There are a lots of customizable features in COD Ghosts; there are so many that some need to be unlocked first before you can access them.

  2. Choose Proper Loadout. In COD Ghosts, you need squad points to unlock certain loadouts. The stronger loadouts are harder to unlock, so plan out what you want to buy later in the game.

    • If you are unsure what attachment or equipment you want, try picking up scattered weapons from dead players and go try them out. By doing so, you can decide which loadout is best for you.

    • Choose the appropriate weapon that will complement your game style. When you play multiplayer for the first time, you will just have access to the basic weapons available on each sniper rifle, shotgun, and automatic rifle category. Make sure to choose a weapon that you think that can bring you a couple of rank ups until you get to unlock other weapons that you really prefer.

    • Don’t forget to select the most effective lethal/tactical equipment in your arsenal. Being effective of course still depends on how you choose to play. For example, using the motion sensor is definitely helpful for snipers, since it can alert them of approaching enemies.

  3. Select Killstreak Rewards. Just like loadouts, higher tier killstreaks are unclockable with higher squad points. Match your killstreak rewards with the type of game play you have in mind.

    • One of the killstreak rewards is summoning Riley, the guard dog that is also present in the game’s campaign mode. Riley can kill up to five enemies before bidding goodbye.

    • If you’re almost done completing a killstreak, make sure you go slowly and land a final kill to unlock a reward. There is no sense rushing and getting killed, as this just resets your killstreak.

  4. Know your maps. There are 15 multiplayer maps (including the pre-order bonus DLC map) included in COD Ghosts. These maps are dynamic and designed to cater to different styles of playing.

    • Maps in COD Ghosts include a lot of interactive factors. There are collapsible walls, elevators, and other stuff that could definitely change the tie of the game. Use this element to your advantage.

    • Aside from interactive factors, there will also be maps with earthquakes and other environmental events that could actually hurt players (like drowning). Watch out for these events to prevent unnecessary fatalities.

Edit Part 3: Begin the Online Match

  1. Find a game. Multiplayer has three game modes, namely Standard, Hardcore, and Clan vs Clan. Among the three, Standard and Hardcore are what you're most likely to be familiar with. Clan vs Clan is a new addition, which requires you to register first in a COD Ghost app for access.

    • After selecting a mode, you will then have to choose the kind of match that you would like to enter. Matches like Team Deathmatch, Domination, and other familiar online matches are still present in COD Ghosts.

    • There are new additions to online matches include Cranked, Blitz, Search and Rescue, and Hunted. Some of these matches are just spin-offs of old matches like Hunted, which is patterned to the old match called Headquarters.

    • For best squad points results, you may want to choose Team Tactical in Hardcore mode. However, if you want the most fun online experience with a decent amount of squad points, go choose Team Deathmatch, Domination, or Ground War.

  2. Coordinate with your team. Unless you're playing Free For All, which is a solo match, it is vital for you to communicate with your other teammates. Connect your headset and start chatting strategy with your team.

    • You can invite or join your team’s party while in-game. his will make your communication with them more effective. You can later add them in your friends list if you find them cool to play with.

    • There’s a new feature in COD Ghosts multiplayer that is called Field Orders. This is a rather unique addition, for it happens randomly. Sometimes a downed enemy will drop a blue suitcase which you can pick up. This suitcase will have a “Field Order” for you to complete. If you manage to pull off the task, it is equivalent to a free kill streak!

  3. Know your style. You should have known by now what your play style is. You could be a stealth killer or a rampage killer. Decide on which path you what to progress so that you can unlock perks that suit your playing style.

    • For stealth type players, equip yourself with light weapons to get the perks under Stealth (Takedown, Blind Eye, Dead Silence, Incog, Of the Grid).

    • For all out rampage type players, you should have the perks under Resistance (Resilience, ICU, Focus, Tac Resist, Blast Shield). Choose high damage weapons and don't worry about being loud and dangerous.

    • Some players choose the waiting game... the snipers. These players don’t move too much and just wait for their prey to cross their sniper rifle’s cross hair. Usually they also use the Stealth perks to avoid being spotted.

  4. Keep track of the mini-map. As the game progresses, you will notice that enemy locations will be indicated in your mini-map screen. This can be helpful to sneak behind enemy lines and surprise them with a back attack.

    • The mini-map will give you hints as to where the enemy’s respawn spots are. Just keep in mind that enemies will likely respawn to spots away from you or your teammates’ locations.

    • One way to maximize the use of the mini-map is when you deploy Sat Coms. Sat Coms reveal enemy locations in a certain range. Be careful though, enemies can use the perk Wiretap to hack into your Sat Coms and work against your team.

    • On tactical matches, keep tracking of the mini-map is very important. Not only it shows enemy locations, it also gives you the location of domination points, flag, and others.

  5. Exploit the enemies’ weakness. Every class has its weakness. So once you learned the majority of your enemies’ class – it is time for you to switch on a different loadout that will likely to counter them.

    • Make sure you have loadouts for specific classes. One for stealth class, defender class, and sniper class. An example of exploiting weakness is when stealth class being effective against sniper class since they move quietly and could easily dodge long shots.

  6. Use squad points wisely. As you might know by now, pretty much everything needs squad points to be unlocked. That being said, it is important for you to distribute these points accordingly.

    • Depending on your chosen class, unlock first the perks and equipments that are aligned to your class. For example, if you are working on your stealth class, start collecting squad points to unlock Dead Silence, as these will be very useful in your style of playing.

    • You could easily earn squad points by completing Operations. This is a list of simple tasks that you need to accomplish to earn extra squad points. An example of an Operation is to run for a certain distance.

    • 2 squad points are awarded to you by simply ranking up. This means that the better you play online, the faster you will earn squad points due to ranking. Use them wisely.

  7. Keep on playing. You may start slowly but with constant multiplayer gaming, you will be an experienced player in no time. Learn the techniques and be with a strong team to make your progress faster and be in the big league battling it out with the big boys of COD Ghosts.

    • Long exposure with veteran players will surely sharpen your craft in playing online. You will definitely learn a thing or two from them.

    • Spending a lot of time playing online means you will be ranking up faster compared to those who just play casually. When you finally unlock high level perks and equipments – you will surely have an obvious edge against other online players.

    • Once you reach the highest rank, you can prestige your player; this is a big deal to COD players. Do this a couple of times and other players will acknowledge you as a Pro player.
