How to Use a Tide to Go Pen

1/19/2014

How many times has this happened to you? You're eating out at a restaurant when suddenly a drop of ketchup lands on your new shirt! You rub and rub but it just smears and spreads the stain. With a Tide to Go pen, you can make that stain less noticeable long enough to properly wash it! Developed by Tide, the Tide to Go pen is an instant stain remover, and because it's the size of a marker, it's perfect for on the go!

Edit Steps

  1. Purchase a Tide to Go pen. They are available at many stores in single, 3, and 5 packs, with a typical price of $2.99, $6.99, and $8.99 respectively.

  2. Remove any excess residue from the stain. It should just be the stain and not any solids.

  3. If you are using it for the very first time, remove the cap and press down on the tip of the pen several times until liquid comes out the end.

  4. To remove the stain, press the tip down on the stain several times to release the solution. You should also place a paper towel underneath the garment to catch any liquid that soaked through.

  5. Gently rub the tip across the stain to remove it. Add any additional liquid when necessary. Also consider blotting the stain with a paper towel.

  6. Let it dry. There will be a fairly noticeable wet spot due to the solution but once that dries, the stain will be gone!

Edit Tips

  • The product works better when the stain is fresh and not dried.

  • Due to its small packaging, it's convenient for stains that occur on the go.

  • Food and drink stains are the easiest to remove, such as tomato sauce, barbecue sauce, coffee, tea, and wine. However, grease, ink, blood, or grass are not recommended.

  • If the stain does not come out, you should instead pre-treat the stain before washing the entire garment.

Edit Warnings

  • While the pen is not effective at removing blood stains, it's against the law in many jurisdictions around the world to attempt to remove blood from evidence used in criminal activities. If the garment has been involved in any sort of criminal activity, forget about removing the stain and contact the police.

  • The Tide to Go pen is only used as a temporary solution for stain removal and users should not be dependent on it for their laundry.

  • In some cases, the liquid may leave an unpleasant odor.
