How to Make a Stool from an Old Tree Trunk

1/15/2014

Want to make a cool camping fire stool for your kids? All you need is to find a dead tree and your hand saw to achieve this simple but very effective project.

Edit Steps

  1. Look around your neighborhood for a suitable dead tree. For example, take a hike to the woods and look for a fallen tree. Be sure to stick to using a dead tree, keeping this an environmentally friendly exercise.

  2. Measure the log that you find. It's safe to say to make your stool about a foot (30cm) high or even lower because it's meant for kids. Use a pencil to mark where you are going to cut the log.

  3. Use your handsaw to start cutting the log. Simply saw back and forth until you have severed the measured piece of log.

  4. Make additional stools. If the log is still long, make use of it by creating even more stools rather than leaving the leftovers behind.

  5. Use a chisel to remove any sharp edges after you are finished cutting.

  6. Grab a piece of sandpaper. Use it to smooth the surface of the stool. You can even paint the stool if you prefer.

  7. Place the finished in your backyard. Now your kids will have a place to settle near the campfire!
