How to Make Cinnamon Ornaments

12/03/2013

Children will love making these simple ornaments that require no baking. They are not edible but are made with food items to make the most of the sweet smell that will waft from them.

This version does not use glue or any additives; therefore it does not last long but it is totally safe for children to make and the lack of baking is a great bonus for young kids. For a longer lasting version, see Cinnamon cookie ornaments.

Edit Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup applesauce

  • 4 oz bottle cinnamon, ground

Edit Steps

  1. Mix the applesauce and cinnamon together until it forms a stiff dough.

  2. Roll the dough out to 1/4" thickness.

  3. Use Christmas shaped cookie cutters to cut out the shapes that you want. Pierce a small hole with a skewer at the top of each ornament to allow a ribbon or string to be fed through.

  4. Lay the ornaments out on a wire cooling rack to dry out. They need to sit on this for a few days, test each day to see how dry they are. It helps to turn them now and then.

  5. Decorate as wished. Use suitable paints, liquid glitter and cake decoration items as wished. Let dry.

  6. Feed through the string or ribbon that will allow the ornament to be hung.

  7. Hang on the tree or wherever you like.

  8. Finished.
